FAQ’s about Donating

Is my donation transaction safe and secure?

Yes. Kintera uses Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology to encrypt all data submitted to and from our site over the Web. SSL renders donors’ personal information, including credit card numbers, virtually unreadable to anyone who intercepts it. In addition to utilizing SSL encryption for all transactions, Kintera stores encrypted credit card numbers and passwords, as well as other donor information, on servers that are kept in a physically secure environment with strict policies that minimize staff access to the information contained therein. The Card Security Code is only used for credit card processing and is not stored on Kintera’s servers.

Are donor names kept confidential?

Kintera never sells, trades, or rents donor information, and the Kintera site has security measures to prevent the loss, misuse, or alteration of donor and donation data. Additionally, donors have the option to give anonymously. See Privacy Policy.

Do donors receive receipts when they make a donation via the Donate Now button?

When a donor makes a contribution and the credit card is verified, a tax receipt is automatically emailed to the donor acknowledging the contribution for tax purposes. This email also thanks the donor for their contribution and includes a thank you message.

What kind of credit card fraud protection is available with Donate Now?

Kintera features new fraud protection at the time the donation is made. This is in response to the concern over credit card fraud which continues to grow in the Internet. In particular, Kintera verifies credit card donations by requiring the “Card Security Code,” a three-digit code on the back of most cards.

What happens if I receive an error message about my credit card and cannot complete the purchase?

The transactions are performed real-time, so if there is an error with your credit card, it may be due to the credit card status, not the Donation process. First, check to ensure all free text entries are typed correctly and free of any error. If that does not work, try again with a different credit card. Kintera will not be able to determine the reason why your credit card was declined, so those questions can be directed toward your credit card company.
