FUNdraising Ideas

Choose one of the ideas below or create your own fun way to raise funds and create awareness for the Foundation and the Bright Spaces program.  Fundraisers can be customized to involve staff only, families, and/or communities.  Team events are encouraged, but employees can raise funds on their own as well (see the ‘Individual’ section below).

Visit this site for more suggestions.  For reference, here’s a  sample of popular events and average funds raised.

Please Remember:

  • Check your local/state laws when planning your event and obtain any necessary permits.
  • When determining suggested donation amounts, take into account your expenses and audience.  Amounts listed on the idea pages are general recommendations and may not apply to your center/team.
  • Go to the Toolkit tab to get promotional materials, the Donation & FUNdraiser Collection Cover Sheet, and other resources.
  • Go to the Register tab to inform us about your event.

Walk Ons

A Walk On is a fun-filled walk for Bright Horizons employees, center children and families, and the surrounding communities. The event helps raise funds for the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children through pledges or donations and complements Center Marketing initiatives to raise awareness of Bright Horizons in local communities.

This page provides you with the initial information, forms, and links you will need to plan, organize, and host your Walk On event. Thank you for creating a special day for children in your community and supporting the work of the Foundation.

All Walk On fundraising events must be registered with the Foundation.  Please contact Sheryl Umayam, Foundation Project Manager, at Sheryl.Umayam@brighthorizons.com, call 323-391-3863 , or complete the online form in the ‘Register’ tab.  This allows Sheryl to provide your team with resources and materials, including a Square to receive credit card payments onsite at your event and the Walk On Banner (10′ x 4′).

Planning Your Event

Generally, we have had two approaches to our Walk On events.  The first approach is doing center-based fundraisers like art auctions, bake sales, footprint sales, etc., which lead up to a community Walk On where you celebrate your efforts and success with staff and families.

The second approach is having a community Walk On where you would collect walking/registration fees and do all your fundraising at the event, perhaps charging vendors for booths, having bake sales, etc. This is usually open to the general public, and you may want to post the event on news sites, blogs, social media, and anywhere you could get local publicity.

You could certainly do a combination of both, and the more centers in your community involved the better.

Marketing Your Event

Prior to the event, make sure vendors and local businesses donating raffle items know that their company information will be listed on your Sponsor List, which is handed out to every adult attending the event at the welcome table.  Forward them a copy of the flyer to post in their office and give them materials on the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children and Bright Spaces so they know more about the organization they are supporting.

After Your Event

Showing appreciation to the Walk On participants before, during, and after the event is the best way to ensure future successful Walk Ons.

Send a thank you note to vendors and volunteers within 10 days of the event. Along with it, you might include any photos taken at the event and a “Certificate of Participation” they can hang on their wall.  On milestone years (e.g., 5th or 10th), you might plan to send them a plaque.  Doing all of this in a timely manner is what they really appreciate.  Maintaining a great relationship makes your job easier in the years to come!

Truck Days

Truck Day is a fun-filled day for Bright Horizons employees, center children and families, and the surrounding communities. This page is designed to provide you with the initial information, forms, and links you will need to plan, organize, and host your Truck Day event. Thank you for creating a special day for children in your community and supporting the work of the Foundation.

All Truck Day fundraising events must be registered with the Foundation.  Please contact Sheryl Umayam, Foundation Project Manager, at Sheryl.Umayam@brighthorizons.com, call 323-391-3863 , or complete the online form in the ‘Register’ tab.  This allows Sheryl to provide your team with resources and materials, including a Square to receive credit card payments onsite at your event and the Truck Day Banner (10′ x 4′).

Hosting Your Event

During the set-up for the event, provide truck owners, volunteers, and additional vendors with coffee and donuts from 8:30-9:30 a.m.  Once the event begins, hand out bottles of water.  Designate someone from the Vendor Team to walk around to them at least a few times during the event to make sure they don’t need anything—another bottle of water, a snack, a bathroom break (if they’re the only one stationed at the vehicle and don’t want to leave it unattended).  Take photos of the truck owners in front of their trucks at the event and vendors at their tables.
