Statement about Blackbaud Database Breach
Members of the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children community,
I want to share with you some information we recently received from one of our IT vendors. Blackbaud is a well-regarded organization used by many non-profits, including the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children, for database storage and management. We were notified that Blackbaud had been subject to a cyberattack compromising some of the data in their database during the period from February 2020 to May 2020. We were upset to learn this and disappointed it took so long for them to make us aware of the incident.
While we are disturbed by this breach, we can assure you that the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children does not collect or retain in the database hosted by Blackbaud any sensitive personal information such as social security numbers, birth dates or credit card numbers. The compromised database included addresses and contact information, and information about your relationship with the Foundation, including donation dates and amounts. According to Blackbaud, the stolen data has since been destroyed, and they have no reason to believe that any data was or will be misused or will be disseminated or otherwise made available publicly. If you’d like to learn more about this cyberattack go to https://www.blackbaud.com/securityincident.
While there is no specific action you need to take, we wanted to be sure to share this information. We deeply value and respect the trust and confidence that you place in our Bright Horizons Foundation for Children and the support you give to bring our mission to life.
If you have specific questions please email the Foundation at firstname.lastname@example.org.
President, Bright Horizons Foundation for Children
