Omaha Bright Horizons Centers Honored for Volunteer Efforts
The Bright Horizons Centers of Nebraska were named the “Volunteer Agency of the Year,” by Catholic Charities for their ongoing work with the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children® to provide safe spaces to play for children in need.
Teachers and staff from Bright Horizons in four centers in Omaha were compelled to help within their community. Edward Zorinsky Child Development Center, First National Child Development Center, Union Pacific Child Development Center, and Bright Horizons at Centennial Mall wanted to create a Bright Space®, a place to allow children to experience the joy of childhood, and have a child-friendly space to play, learn, and feel safe. At Phoenix House, one of the Catholic Charities domestic violence shelters, the teachers discovered the perfect opportunity to do so by enhancing an existing area designated for children.
The four centers in Nebraska held fundraisers to create the spaces from Superhero walks and bake sales to earn the money needed for a grant to create an infant play area, art space, and kitchenette area at the Catholic Charities site. After the Bright Space was created, staff from the centers continued to replenish supplies needed for families at the shelter, by donating comfort bags, holding toiletry drives, and running holiday fundraisers to ensure that all families have what they need.
