New Bright Space Opens at San Mateo County Jail

Marin Day School-Redwood City Campus recently opened a Bright Space at the San Mateo County Jail. The County of San Mateo, a Bright Horizons client, requested MDS to partner with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office Department and design a room suitable for children to have supervised visitation with their incarcerated parents.

San Mateo BSPrior to the Bright Space, court-ordered parental visitation took place in a confining, inhospitable room. Now kids have a safe space that allows them to be a kid and enjoy family time. All items in the space have been tested and approved by the jail planning committee for security measures. There’s also a canvas hanging in the room that was painted by Bright Horizons staff.

Julie Costa, Deputy Sheriff, said, “I just wanted to let you know that the Family Reunification Room is a huge success. The kids have loved it, and the inmates and CPS workers have also.”
