Mark Mendel Joins Foundation as President

He will serve as the visionary leader for the Foundation and is responsible for the overall operations, fiscal integrity, and programmatic success of the organization.  Ultimately, he seeks to ensure that the Foundation continues to help Bright Horizons employees fulfill the company’s mission of “making a difference in the lives of children and families in the communities where we live and work.”

“I am committed to deepening the Foundation’s impact in the communities we serve, and I’m excited about harnessing the talent and energy of Bright Horizons employees to make this happen,” said Mark. “I’m looking forward to working with the Foundation team.”

“Mark possesses a lifelong passion for nonprofit work that will allow him to help the Foundation broaden its reach and continue to evolve to meet the ever-growing needs and issues faced by children and families in crisis,” said Gary O’Neil, Chairman of the Board for the Foundation.

Prior to joining the Foundation, Mark served Division Vice President of Bright Horizons Family Solutions for 14 years, where he provided leadership and oversight to the company’s center and school operations in the Southeastern United States.  Mark has been with Bright Horizons since 1998, when the Kidstop Early Learning Centers he co-founded and co-owned with his wife in Florida were acquired by Bright Horizons.

Earlier in his career, Mark worked in several non-profit organizations providing services to children and youth.  He spent many years in fundraising and resource development for the United Way of Palm Beach County and the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County, Florida.  Mark holds a Masters in Social Work from Yeshiva University in New York and a Bachelor’s Degree with a concentration in Community Services Administration from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.

Mark and his wife Joan make their home in South Florida where they raised their two grown children.  In his spare time, you can find Mark continuing his volunteer work for several local organizations as well as playing with and training Rosie, his Labrador Retriever.
