Hurricane Harvey Children’s Fund Raises More Than $60,000 to Help Children and Families
More than $35,000 was raised through donations by Bright Horizons employees, Bright Horizons families, and others to the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children Hurricane Harvey Children’s Fund – then Bright Horizons matched the first $25,000 raised for a total impact of more than $60,000!
After assessing our Bright Spaces in Texas, it was clear that they were not severely impacted and that we should focus on the needs of other children; both immediate needs as well as those needs which require moderate and long term approaches. Therefore, the fund is supporting specific programs through the following organizations:
Immediate Relief – “Texas Diaper Bank” provides diapers, wipes, and other essential baby care products to young families in shelters that are housing evacuees and other organizations that need diapers and baby care items.
Moderate Term – “Save The Children” is setting up child-friendly spaces in shelters where kids can play and learn while parents manage their family’s emergency needs. Additionally, specially trained staff will help children deal with the difficult emotions that can arise during and in the aftermath of disasters.
Child Focused Volunteer Efforts – “All-Hands Volunteers” recruits, trains, and deploys volunteers across impacted regions of Texas. Further, All Hands Volunteers has committed to stay and rebuild Texas for at least two years, and we are working with them specifically on volunteer-focused, child-centric efforts.
We are in contact with all three organizations to assure that the funds are utilized within our parameters and intentionally for children’s services and programs.
