Hurricane Disasters and Long Term Trauma Solutions, Ileen Henderson Discusses in a New Blog Post
Our National Director of #BrightSpaces Ileen Henderson found a great article explaining how trauma for children lasts long after the hurricane is over — it’s one of the reasons the Foundation chose partners that address immediate as well as long-term needs when dispersing the money raised for our Hurricane Harvey Children’s Fund. The article emphasizes the need for providing trauma training for all staff to utilize as children return to school after devastation, such as what has occurred with Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. Studies found schools that rebounded the fastest after disasters acknowledged the disruption and distress of both students and staff members and provided flexible supports for both.
