Making Hope Real
“Making Hope Real” – that was the connecting feeling among 25 Bright Horizons volunteers who traveled to Hunts Point, in South Bronx, NY, to open our 250th Bright Space as part of Bright Horizons’ 25th Anniversary Celebration. More than 1,500 children under the age of 6 live in this small, densely populated community – the poorest zip code in the country. Only 9% of the children starting school were ready for kindergarten. Community organizations such as Hunts Point Alliance for Children, Jumpstart, and La Peninsula were helping determined neighborhood residents who wanted to make this a better place for children, but resources were tight. Partnering with the Hunts Point Alliance for Children, Jumpstart, and Bright Horizons, two amazing spaces were created for the families and children.
