Foundation Executive Director Becky Bowman to Retire

March 24, 2017

Becky Bowman, Executive Director of the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children, will retire on April 7, 2017.

“Becky is a true champion for children. Her compassion for those in need knows no bounds, just like her unwavering commitment to quality programs that serve families,” said Gary O’Neil, Chairman of the Foundation Board and SVP, Employee, Community and Partner Engagement for Bright Horizons. ”From Bright Spaces to the center programs she managed for years, there is a bit of Becky in the hearts and souls of thousands of children and their families, and they will be kinder, gentler, more compassionate people for the role she has played in their lives.”

Becky has overseen the amazing growth of the Foundation to almost 300 Bright Spaces in the U.S. and 50 in the UK; expanded from a staff of 2 to a staff of 11; moved from operating on an Excel spreadsheet to a donor database with thousands of donors; and shaped volunteer efforts, including the wildly successful Brightening Lives Activities.

In her nearly 30 years as part of the Bright Horizons family, Becky has left an indelible mark in the effort to brighten lives by supporting children and their families, especially those facing crisis. She has turned the decades she spent working in early childhood education into actionable programs for children living in homeless shelters, domestic abuse shelters, temporary housing or were otherwise facing crisis. She turned her knowledge about learning spaces into what is now a global Bright Spaces program.

“I’ve always admired Becky for her dedication to making a difference in the communities where we live and work – one Bright Space, one team, one family, one child at a time,” said Mark Mendel, President of the Foundation.  “I want to thank Becky for her impact on the growth and success of the Foundation and wish her joy and happiness in the next chapter of her life.”

Becky’s devotion to supporting children and families is rivaled only by her devotion to her own family. She looks forward to spending more time with her recently retired husband, Mark, and their exceptional daughter, Kylie.
