Brightening Lives at Our Bright Space® on the Border
When our Bright Space in McAllen, TX, recently put out an urgent call for help, Bright Horizons employees answered. Regional Manager Sophie Everett and Director Lisa Salas are the Connector volunteers for the Bright Space, and they asked centers in Texas in Divisions 4 and 11 to join them in collecting items for the families.
After hearing from Sophie and Lisa, Center Director Tauna Wiltz and teacher and National Better Together Rep Andrea Feerst brainstormed what the Valero Family Center in San Antonio, TX, could do. They decided to meet the request for hygiene items by asking each teaching team to bring in a specific item and then assemble the kits together as a center.
Once Teacher Kayla Godinez heard about the project, she stepped into Tauna’s office and stated, “I want to be a part of this! In fact, I want to deliver the items myself!”
Kayla grew up in McAllen and remained there her entire childhood. “McAllen is my home town. I grew up witnessing mothers, fathers and children work through temporary and sometimes permanent separation of family members,” she said. “To be part of this Brightening Lives activity and know that these items will bring a bit of comfort, means so much.”
