Bright Horizons Helps Children and Teens Affected by Hurricane Sandy
Bright Horizons is more than an organization – we’re a family helping families. And that’s exactly what employees stepped up to do in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
Working together with our Bright Horizons Foundation for Children and our curriculum partner Teaching Strategies, we have raised $40,800 for the continuing relief efforts: $13,600 from donations; a match of $13,600 from Bright Horizons and a match of $13,600 from Teaching Strategies.
“We sent funds directly to three of our agencies partners that served a large number of homeless adolescents (more than 1,000) that were living in the subway stations of NYC,” said the Foundation’s Executive Director Becky Bowman. “We also provided funds for gift cards at local grocery stores for the families at Hunts Point, our 25 for 25 Bright Space, when children who usually receive meals at school were going hungry.”
The balance of the funds will be sent to Save the Children – one of our emergency relief partners who were on site in New York and New Jersey setting up play spaces in shelters and who continue to work with families on the emotional impact of the disaster.
Thank you for your help! A storm of this magnitude reminds us of the vast power of nature, and also of the resilience and generosity of the human spirit. Thank you for giving to help these children and their families.
