BH Growth Team Creates Bright Space in Colorado

Colorado Coalition panoramic 2

The recently opened Bright Space at the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless is a proud accomplishment for the members Bright Horizons Growth Team. They partnered with Bright Horizons Broomfield and the EdAssist “Rugged Maniacs” to raise $24,000 to create the new Bright Space and to fund an upcoming makeover for the Bright Space at Parenting Journey.

“The children that will be impacted by this new Bright Space are all from homeless families that are looking for housing, counseling, medical, and dental aid,” said Linda Toldness, Client Implementation Specialist, and one of the Growth Team’s volunteers “This space will provide a safe, clean environment where they can wait while their families explore their options at the center. We are honored to be a part of this wonderful project.”

The agency’s family waiting room was chosen as the location of a Bright Space because it is one of the first places that young children go when families need services, and children can spend anywhere from ten minutes to several hours in the room.  The space was specifically designed with child friendly furniture, fixtures, and equipment that are durable and sustainable without significant staff oversight.  There is also a safe infant area where babies can move and explore instead of being confined in a car seat or stroller.

“It makes such a difference for our families to have this new, bright and beautiful space. We can’t thank Bright Horizons enough,” says Susie Street Director of Family Support Services. “The children we see spend a lot of the day going to appointments with their parents and that doesn’t leave a lot of time for play, so it’s incredibly special to have a space to move, to jump around, and to just be a kid.”

Colorado Coalition set up

The Colorado Coalition for the Homeless works collaboratively toward the prevention of homelessness and the creation of lasting solutions for homeless and at-risk families, children, and individuals throughout Colorado.  Their Children’s Program provides early intervention/prevention services to promote the healthy physical, emotional, educational, and social growth of homeless children.
