Betty Flesher, Teacher, Receives Gleason Grant
Please join us in congratulating Betty Flesher, Teacher at Discoveries Learning Centers, for being honored with a Gleason Grant. Eyes In The Sky program of the Santa Barbara Audubon Society will be receiving a check for $250 in her name.
Betty has been with the EYES program for 8 years and handles one of their smallest raptors, a Western Screech Owl. She presents her bird, along with other volunteers and their raptors, to the families who come to visit the Museum of Natural History. In the past Betty has visited elementary classrooms with their Director, the Screech Owl and their Great Horned Owl. She has also taken former EYES Screech Owls to other preschool classrooms (including Discoveries) as part of the school’s science curriculum.
Betty and the other volunteers are responsible for maintaining the aviaries on the Museum property and, if possible, they visit other raptor programs to learn how they operate their facilities and care for their raptors.
