A Bright Space for Children in Foster Care
Our newest Bright Space recently opened in Yulee, FL, (near Jacksonville). It focuses on a category of children in crisis other than experiencing homelessness: children in foster care. This Bright Space, created with support from Casey Family Programs, will serve children in foster care through the Family Support Services (FSS) of North Florida.
FSS’s primary goal is to safely reunify families after resolving the issues that led to the children being placed in foster care. The Bright Space will be used to help provide parenting classes and coaching, as well as a place for families to relax and play together to build stronger relationships.
“The team at FSS will use the visitation center in innovative ways to strengthen positive interactions between parents and children,” said Lee Kaywork, FSS chief executive officer.
Wendy Pelletier, Director of New Center Development, led the FSS team of child welfare employees in charge of the visitation center make-over. In addition, the Bright Horizons Citi Family Center in Jacksonville provided volunteers organized by Center Director Ryan Hamilton who painted, installed flooring, assembled furniture, and organized toys in the visitation center.
