A program of the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children®

Bright Spaces are warm, safe, enriching places for children in crisis located in nonprofit and community agencies. Complex trauma, like homelessness or domestic violence, can have lifelong damaging effects on children's physical, emotional, and intellectual growth and development. We have touched hundreds of thousands of lives over 15 years. Our trained, caring volunteers help us create customized spaces that meet the needs of the families served by our agency partners.

Our Impact

Bright Spaces make a difference one child, one family, one volunteer, one community at a time. Here are some of the ways Bright Spaces have made an impact.

Learning Resources

Bright Spaces are created using best practices of trauma-informed design. Children experiencing crisis and stress have different needs than children who are not. Find out more in our Learning Resources section.

Children in crisis need our help. Bright Spaces can be that help by providing a place to experience the joy of childhood. Play is the way that children heal from trauma and stress. Bright Spaces are designed to provide children with an opportunity to play, to learn, and to feel safe.

There are 297 Bright Spaces open to children in crisis in 41 states and Canada.
